Summer is fast approaching and you know what that means; your kids are going to be ripping and running the streets doing everything they can so that they don't have to come in for dinner, bathe, or do just about anything else they are told.
In addition to their allowance, consider coming up with some money making ideas for kids to help keep your little ones out of trouble and maybe even give them a head start toward saving for that new video game, or some other item on their wish list. In doing so, you're teaching your children how to save money in a fun way.
Other than keeping them out of trouble, your kids will learn the value of earning money and help them start to learn money management skills as children.
Luckily for us, money making ideas for kids haven't changed much since you were probably a kid. If you are having a bit of a hard time jogging your brain for the get rich quick schemes that you used as a kid, read on for more information on how you can help your kids earn some extra money this year.
Set Up a Lemonade Stand
This is a classic favorite; summers are hot and with this climate change thing going on they are only getting hotter. While adults have nice cool cars to ride down the block in (usually) kids don't, and they get thirsty.
Rather than have them raid your fridge all at once and clean you out of the only juice you bought for the week, help your kids earn some extra money by setting them up with a lemonade stand.
Create some good looking signs and post them around the house and down the street a little bit each way. Set them up with a pitcher of lemonade or a lemonade machine, some Dixie cups and a card table and set them to work. They can make a little chunk of change charging a quarter a cup—but don't let them drink up all their profits!
Yard Work Pays Well in Summer Months
While lemonade stands are usually good work for younger ids, older kids do well with yard work. If you are much like anybody else, chances are that you hate doing yard work when the temperature goes up outside. That is perfectly understandable, especially since there are plenty of kids out there that are looking for ways to earn extra money.
Raking, weeding, mowing, trimming—you name it. Prices can fluctuate based on the heat and the size of the job that needs to be done—and tips are always encouraged.
Set Up a Kids Garage Sale
This is another timeless money making classic, but with a kids-only theme. Walk your kids around their room and ask them what they don't play much with anymore and would like to sell. You'll be surprised what they say when the possiblity of earning money is put in front of them.
After you and your children have gathered up a bunch of toys, have them let the other neighborhood kids know that they are having a kids garage sale on Saturday morning. More than likely, the other kids will want to join in and sell their stuff.
Put some signs out early on a Saturday and voila! - a neighborhood kids garage sale.
Use the Power of Ebay to Sell Kids Stuff
It's kinda like the kids garage sale idea, but without the big production. You'll probably need to help them on this one, but there's usually a lot of stuff that they have laying around the house that is worth something on Ebay.
Video games they've grown tired of, dolls they've grown out of, and clothes they're too big for now are usually great sellers on eBay.
Helping kids earn extra money doesn't have to be hard. There are so many ways that kids can go about earning some extra cash—these are just a couple of the most timeless.
Get creative and find out what types of things they like to do, and see how you might be able to turn that into a lucrative summer business for them.
